2-3-4-1 Cuts: 3-3-4
My preferred alignment of the Breeding Does is 2-3-4-1. I found a place to begin in the 2 Doe, she best combines an attractive look on the profile with her productive high volume body type, and I can see her generating successful show-ring bound progeny. She’s tall fronted, long sided and studies with good turn and dimension down her top and into her rib shape.
Now, there is certainly a lot to appreciate about the female I leave in 2nd, as the 3 Doe is a moderate, stout featured goat, however she needs to offer more frame size and extension to begin to rival my competitive class winner.
I find the place for debate of type and kind to be my intermediate decision, but it’s my personal preference to use the added dimension and boldness found in 3 over 4. The traditionally marked doe opens with the rounder rib shape and carries this added mass down through a deeper, fuller flank. She’s also the heavier structured female who offers the more attractive set to her hip and hind leg.
There’s no question the bigger framed, red necked doe is easily longer sided and more extended from end to end and gives a touch more refinement and femininity, yet I think it almost work to her disadvantage as she’s the shallow flanked, fine boned doe who needs to be powered up to reach into the top pair.
Still into my bottom pair of plainer made females I prefer the smoother blending profile and more correct lines of 4 over 1. The cleaner fronted doe ties her neck into a cleaner, flatter shoulder, and remains stronger and leveler down her top-line and out of her hip.
For what it’s worth the paint eared doe is certainly the stouter made, heavier structured female and carries more depth through her flank, but this isn’t enough to get her off bottom, as she’s the weak topped,steep hipped, coarse big shouldered doe of class.
